DTI™ is Joel Johnston and John McKay.
Both are major Canadian university graduates. They have collectively amassed over 60 years of operational, real-world law enforcement experience with largest law enforcement agencies in Canada. They have operated at the highest levels of policing from "Skid Row" beat policing, to controlling major urban riots, to serving high-risk drug & search warrants, to performing successful hostage rescues. DTI™ has been in the business of personal and organizational safety for over 20 years and has established a reputation of professionalism and excellence.
Collectively, they have over 70 years of martial arts experience, from street-level self defense, to high-level formal international traditional martial arts competition. They have synthesized a reality-based approach to dealing with confrontation, resistant behaviour and physical violence in the workplace and in day-to-day life, in a safe, effective, socially acceptable manner.
Collectively they have over 50 years of hands-on and theoretical instructional experience, at the same time maintaining their own professional development. They are frequently requested as speakers at National and International Training Conferences. They have had numerous articles published in North America's major law enforcement magazines and journals. They have literally trained thousands of students from every walk of life, in the areas of personal safety, confrontation management, and arrest & control tactics. They know what students are capable of learning, retaining, and most importantly - performing under high stress conditions - when it counts most!
Collectively, they have over 40 years of experience as active court-certified Use of Force expert witnesses. They have provided expert analysis and consulted on hundreds of incidents and have provided expert witness testimony in dozens of proceedings, at every level of the judiciary across Canada in Criminal and Civil proceedings, and in Public Process Hearings (Disciplinary Hearings, Arbitration Hearings, Public Inquiries, Inquests). They are highly sought after and well-respected subject-matter experts in the legal community.
This experience has not come overnight. It cannot be bought, and it cannot be hurried.
