Our Logo—Its' Significance...
The DTI logo was developed in 1992. It appears simply as a square with steps and arrows inside of it.
The logo has significant meaning, however.

The logo has significant meaning, however.
- The two sides of the square are balanced in navy blue and white (traditional law enforcement colours), and represent the yin and yang balance found in nature - good and evil, darkness and light, right and wrong, etc...
- The "steps" represent the 5 basic "Response Options" available to individuals dealing with confrontational and/or violent behaviour - Presence, Communication, Empty Hand Tactics, Intermediate Weapons, and Firearms.
- Also represented by these "steps" are the 5 basic "Behaviours" exhibited by people in confrontational situations - Cooperation, Passive Resistance, Active Resistance, Assaultive Behaviour, and Deadly Force Behaviour.
- The upward arrow represents an escalation of force in response to an escalation of Behaviour.
- The downward arrow represents a de-escalation of force as control is gained, or cooperation occurs.
- All the while representing "proportionality" - a key component to the lawful justification of force.
